Thursday's Eco-Tip: Reuse!

In my life I constantly try to live by the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra.  It's better for the environment, my wallet, and my sanity!
This year I've been focusing on the reduce part - do I really need to buy that?  Will I use it a lot or will it go by the wayside shortly?  This is where our Two Year Rule came to being.  I was amazed how much money we saved once we cut out impulse buying!
Once you've succeeded in reducing what you buy, the next step is to find ways to reuse what you have.  See something you want?  Look around your house and see if you have something already that can do the job just as well.

Here is a recent reuse I've started using.  Living in Florida, it's hard to keep your potted plants alive during the summer.  It rarely rains, and the days are hot!  If you aren't good at consistently watering, you're plants will be dead before you know it!  So what is the solution?  Wine bottles!
Fill a wine bottle up with water, and then shove it down into your pot - instant aquaglobe for free!  If you don't drink wine, I'm sure you can use other kinds of bottles, or get some bottles from a friend who does.

What are some ways you reuse?

Clever idea! This may not be the newest idea ever about not wasting but I cook A LOT and my goal is to not waste any of it, to finish all of the leftovers before they go bad. Have a great weekend!! Miriam@Meatless Meals For Meat Eaters

I agree Miriam! Did you see my shepherd's pie I posted on Wed? Great way to use random leftover veggies!

What a great idea, and all the water doesn't come out at once?

Thanks for stopping by -- I'm following back!

I never thought of using a wine bottle to water plants. I assumed that the water would just come out all at once. I'm visiting from Boost My Blog Friday and have been looking around your blog. Love it! I'm your newest subscriber. Have a great weekend, Candace

You have to be somewhat quick with sticking the bottle in the dirt, but no, the water doesn't all come out at once.
2L bottles work too!

Love the wine bottle idea, I will definately be using it! I guess I have to drink more wine to harvest the bottles! Hee Hee! I reuse by mending clothes, fixing broken toys, and keeping all my plastic bags and washing them out and reusing them.
