Immunet - A Review and a Contest!

We all know and fear them – the dreaded internet computer virus.  I would imagine most of us have even been affected by them once or twice!  However, many virus scan programs can slow down your computer tremendously.  That’s what I really like about Immunet, founded by a former Symantec and McAfee security veteran and entrepreneur.   I’ve only tested it for a couple of days, but I haven’t noticed it slowing anything down.  This is because it resides in the cloud instead of on your computer.  You can read CNet’s review on it here.

The cool thing is that after signing up you can invite your friends and family to join your community.  “Each time a virus is blocked on one computer in the Immunet Community ALL other computers are instantly protected from the same virus, increasing the speed and level of virus protection with each new member. This collaborative approach uses “strength in numbers” that grows smarter with each new community member.”  This is great because viruses tend to spread among people you know very quickly.

Right now not only can you get their basic protection for free, but by joining and adding friends to your community through Facebook before February 28th you can get the chance to win a free upgrade to Immunet Protect Plus and $100!  During installation of Immunet Protect Free, there is a prompt to Share via Facebook. Anyone who wants to enter the contest should select this option and add their name at the beginning of the pre-populated text in the dialog window. All participants’ names will be entered automatically into the contest to win Immunet Protect Plus, a $19.95 value, for themselves and up to 50 members of their personal online community, plus a $100 cash award. The winner will be selected by a random drawing on March 2, 2011.
