Who Said A Green Kitchen Is A Boring Kitchen?

Thanks to Veronica Davis for today's guest post!
The kitchen is the room which produces the most waste and uses the most energy in the house. It can easily become the room which brings the most harm to the environment. This doesn’t mean that you have to do away with a kitchen you love, though. Make it a green kitchen.
Going green for many people will bring the image of a boring way of living. Well, some green advocates have not made it since they make going green seem like living in a jungle. However, going green simply implies doing what you do everyday without harming the environment. This article will discuss some of the green methods you can use for your kitchen. They are fun - even for moms who want to keep up with the latest kitchen trends.

Cooking is one of the activities which demands a lot of energy consumption. You can reduce the amount of energy used when cooking by choosing the right utensils and energy source.
Gas is a fossil fuel and electricity is usually produced using coal. However, the key to saving energy is selecting the cooking appliance to use. Go for those which will allow for use of little energy to produce much heat for cooking. Use a toaster oven, crock pot or microwave vs. the stove when possible. If you have a gas stove, cut off the pilot lights and manually light when you need to use it. Usually you just have to tighten the set screw. Never just blow them out, as the gas will still be leaking out! By doing this you use 40% less gas, according to EarthEasy.

For the cooking utensils, such as spoons and bowls, choose bamboo. Buy pots and pans made from durable materials, such as ceramic, glass and stainless steel. There are many different designs and colors you can choose from. For instance, check out this stylish ceramic cooking set.
The most waste in the house comes from the kitchen. This ranges from food to plastics. Cutting down on the waste will ensure that your kitchen is cleaner; you make a lot of savings as well as make steps towards saving the environment. Here are some tips on reducing the waste in your kitchen.
Start by planting your own herb garden. An herb garden will ensure that you don’t go to the grocery shop in search of herbs. This will save you money and also give you fresh herbs whenever you need them.
When doing your groceries, carry your own bags and avoid wrapped food. The wrappings usually end up in the waste bin since they have no further use in the house. Also, use reusable bags when doing your groceries.
If you find that you are throwing away a lot of leftover food, perhaps its time you started buying food in smaller portions. This will cut down on the waste from your kitchen as well as cut down on your food expenditure. You should also consider composting for all the waste coming out of your kitchen.

Stop buying bottled water and go for water filters. This way, you will be able to purify tap water for drinking. Also, use reusable water bottles for water storage.

There are many ways to make your kitchen green and fun. It will mean replacing most of what you already have in your kitchen. While buying some of the items you will need for you green kitchen might initially seem expensive, you can reduce the cost by making your purchases using eBay coupon. They have lots of very stylish kitchen pieces in their green living section and there are almost always coupons available.
